This was such a weird photo to get because I didn't feel that I should be in the place where I was, but I talked to a ranger and he said it was fine if I went down there, as long as I could get myself back up. Anyway, here's some moss growing under a waterfall in Colorado.

A lot is made of Martin Luther King Jr.'s I have a Dream speech, especially the part about being judged by the content of one's character, but I much prefer the very angry Letter from a Birmingham Jail, in which King called out those who prefer keeping the peace over fighting for justice. He wrote: "I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season." I took a wrong turn and stumbled upon this place.

I took a wrong turn and stumbled upon this place. I didn't have a map and service at this location was scarce, so I couldn't download anything. I was on a trail and missed the turn I was expecting. I felt like I was perhaps going in the wrong direction when the trail didn't really end, and I knew for sure I was going in the wrong direction when I had to do a river crossing. I don't know why I crossed the river anyway, but I did, and I ended up at this great house on a hill. Obviously, it's all in ruins now, but it was once something beautiful and it was really fun to poke around it in for an hour or so.

It's so dry in Colorado, so we don't get nearly the amount of mushrooms that they have out east. We have mushrooms, but it doesn't feel like we have the same variety. I saw these amazing little mushrooms growing out of a fallen tree in Virginia and I loved them. I hope you do too.

One of my absolute favorite hikes for summer or fall. I'm still working on getting good water shots. I want to make it flow and sharp, which isn't always easy. I like this shot though.

The midwest is underrated. Sure, it takes a long time to get anywhere, but it those amber waves of grain are actually quite pretty and it is quite lovely to see the sun set over a field.

This blue heron very melodramatically flew over my head while I was, rather stupidly, looking at my phone. Fortunately, my camera was nearby, and so was their nest, so I spent some time trying to get a good photo and hoping it would take off again, so I could get a picture in flight. It did, but I'm not sure that those photos are going to work, so this is all you get (for now)

A sunset over the Mississippi River. I was camping here and could see the sunset popping off. It was a race against time to get to my campsite and then I spent so much time taking pictures that I ended up setting up my tent in the dark. I didn't talk to anyone at that campsite and left pretty early because I wanted to get to Des Moines for some reason. Not sure what my logic was there, but worked out.

Some of the wild ponies I saw on my adventures this summer. On this particular day I saw five herds of wild ponies. Even though I was sweating profusely, my feet hurt a lot, and I accidentally contaminated the water in my Nalgene bottle, I still had the best day ever. Thanks, ponies.
